Puasa elak otak mengecut
LONDON 28 Feb. - Kajian saintifik perubatan Barat mendapati berpuasa dua kali seminggu boleh mengelakkan otak individu daripada mengecut dengan pertambahan umur, selain manfaat kepada mereka yang menghidapi penyakit jantung, diabetes dan kanser.
Berpuasa pada masa dulu pernah digunakan dalam rawatan perubatan namun kajian terbaru menunjukkan ia perlu diterapkan semula.
Ini kerana ia mampu mencetuskan pelbagai hormon yang membantu meningkatkan kesihatan selain perubahan metabolisme badan.
Berpuasa selama beberapa hari hanya melibatkan pemakanan makanan antara 500 dan 800 kalori sehari sahaja berbanding hari biasa iaitu 2,000 kalori bagi wanita dan 2,500 kalori (lelaki).
Ia menurunkan tahap hormon yang dikaitkan dengan kanser dan diabetes selain kolestrol 'tidak baik' dan triglyceride dalam darah serta pengurangan radikal bebas, molekul yang dikaitkan dengan pelbagai penyakit.
Ketua Neorosains Institut Penuaan Nasional Amerika Syarikat (AS), Profesor Mark Mattson berkata, faedahnya sama seperti anda bersenam. Ia boleh melindungi otak daripada penyakit kemerosotan otak seperti Alzheimer dan Parkinson.
Dalam satu kajian yang dilaporkan oleh Jurnal Obesiti Antarabangsa tahun lepas, sekumpulan wanita obes dan gemuk diberikan pemakanan melibatkan 1,500 kalori sehari untuk satu minggu.
Satu lagi kumpulan diberikan pemakanan 500 kalori untuk dua hari dan kemudian 2,000 kalori setiap hari pada lima hari seterusnya.
Pakar diet Universiti Manchester, Dr. Michele Harvie yang mengetuai kajian itu berkata, kedua-dua kumpulan menunjukkan penurunan berat badan yang sama selain pengurangan sama penanda biologi yang boleh meningkatkan risiko kanser. - Agensi

A study led by Dr Michelle Harvie – based at the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital – put women with a high risk of the disease on a calorie-controlled diet for two days a week.
Women who diet for just two days a week could reduce their risk of getting breast cancer by nearly half, researchers in Manchester have discovered.
A study led by Dr Michelle Harvie – based at the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital – put women with a high risk of the disease on a calorie-controlled diet for two days a week.
The result was an average 13lb drop in weight – and a reduction of up to 40 per cent in cancer-causing hormones.
The study examined 100 overweight women from Greater Manchester, with half following a 650-calorie-a-day diet for two days a week, and the rest following a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet for the entire week.
After six months on the diets, the women’s levels of the hormone leptin was down 40 per cent, their insulin levels down 25 per cent and their levels of inflammatory protein down 15 per cent. All three have been linked to breast cancer.
The other women followed a 1,500-calorie-a day Mediterranean diet. They showed similar weight loss and hormone reductions.
Dr Harvie said the new diet could be a life-saver for women who found it difficult to stay on a diet for a week.
Among the women who took part in the trial was research professor Gillian Haddock, who had been in a high-risk group for the disease. She lost a stone in six months on the diet and is now recommending it to her friends. Pamela Goldberg, chief executive of the Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “There are many breast cancer risk factors that can’t be controlled, such as age, gender and family history - but staying at a healthy weight is one positive step that can be taken.
“This intermittent dieting approach provides an alternative to conventional dieting which could help with weight loss, but also potentially reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.”
Oleh sebab itu Rasulullah dikhabarkan tidak pernah sakit kerana sentiasa mengamalkan berpuasa dua hari seminggu iaiatu pada setiap hari Isnin dan Khamis.
Ternyatalah sekarang bahawa segala amalan Rasulullah terlalu banyak hikmahnya. Usah bertanya kenapa, tetapi amalkan terlebih dahulu. Samekna wa Atakna.
